Theatre Workshop
The Mississippi Theatre Association will host a theatre workshop on September 30 - October 1 in Gulfport, MS, the location of the 2012 MTA Festival. The meeting will be held at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College – JD campus at the Arena Theatre. The workshop will begin at 1:00 p.m. on September 30 and end at 5:00 p.m. on October 1.

| 1:30-3:00 | Lighting 101: A beginning lighting workshop that covers the basics of fixtures, terms, color, cool/warm, and light plots. This class will give the participants a working knowledge of stage lighting. By Rusty Scafidel, Theatrical Lighting Systems Inc. |
| 3:15-4:15 | Carol Anderson, Mississippi Humanities Council will talk about the Humanities Council, their mission and the grants available to theatres in Mississippi. |
| 4:30 – 5:30 | Ellis Anderson, Mississippi freelance writer and photographer, will talk about the Mississippi Creative Economy and what it means to theatres in Mississippi. This initiative which is sponsored by the MS Arts Commission and the MS Developement Authority is looking at the arts as a driving force behind economic recovery and revitalization. MAC will present grant opportunities for schools and community theaters along with strategies for integrating theater into the classroom and building value for community theater through education. | 9:00 – 11:00 | “You can Do THAT with Hot Glue?!?!” by Dex Edwards, University of MississippiIt is the demonstration of approximately 50 tricks (Props, Scenic and Costume) that can be easily and cost effectively be produced with hot glue. All of them outside the normal intended use of the product. Hand props, armor pieces, furniture ornamentation, masks, realistic spider webs, crowns, jewelry, fake foods, puppets and more. There is a hands-on component of the workshop as well, were participants can try their hand at achieving some of the effects as part of the demonstration. | |

| 1:30 – 2:30 | This session will cover some of the latest trends in social media and how your theatre can leverage tools like Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare to promote your theatre and encourage participation. This session will review how DramaFest and MTA work.
