CORINTH, Miss. … Corinth Theatre-Arts’ next production is “The House at Pooh Corner,” a poignant story about growing up that features everybody’s favorite stuffed bear.
Shows are at 7:30 p.m., Friday-Saturday, Feb. 22-23, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Crossroads Playhouse, 303 Fulton Drive, Corinth. Tickets are $6 for students and $12 for adults. Call 662.287.2995 for reservations.
“The House at Pooh Corner” is adapted from A.A. Milne’s book of the same name – the second volume in his series about Winnie-the-Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet and other beloved characters. The story focuses on the animals’ efforts to prevent their owner, Christopher Robin, from going away to school and culminates in the lesson they learn: Friends take care of each other.
“The play talks about the realization that all children come to one day — that things are not always going to be the same, that change is sometimes painful and that change always does come,” said David Maxedon, director. “Heartwarming and funny, ‘The House at Pooh Corner’ is a gentle reminder of a more innocent time in all of our lives.”
Cast members are Christopher Robin, Max Marsh; Winnie-the-Pooh, Ashley Austin; Piglet, Caden Harvell; Owl, Emili Gann; Eeyore, Mikaela Hancock; Tigger, Kennedy Curtis; Kanga, Katelyn Mathis; Roo, MeKyland Williams; Rabbit, Meredith Nall; Early, Ava Marsh; Late, Pearl Spears; and understudy, Shelby Sewell.
In the weeks leading up to the performances, CT-A hosted several “The House At Pooh Corner”-themed activities, including two previews of the show: On a cold and snowy Saturday morning, members of the cast did readings from the script at K.C.’s Espresso Shop in downtown Corinth, and the next Saturday, members of CT-A’s youth program held a Pooh-themed storytime at the Corinth Library, reading stories from the book, re-enacting scenes from the play and leading some theatre games.
In addition, members of the CT-A Youth Action Committee also will hold a Family Fest prior to the Saturday, Feb. 23, performance, featuring Winnie-the-Pooh games and activities. And, as a special treat, honey-flavored cupcakes from Corinth bakery Sweet on You will be sold during intermission.
