•  The Mississippi College Theatre Fair allows auditioning colleges/universities to be represented and available for questions.

The fee for students participating in the auditions and the College Fair is $40.00, which includes MTA Membership fee, MTA Festival fee and audition fee. There is no charge for parents, teachers, and non-participating students accompanying students to the College Theatre Fair, but anyone who wishes to participate in workshops and/or attend performances must register. Students attending the MTA festival with their school only have to pay an additional $15.00 to participate in the auditions.

All applications must be postmarked by January 5, 2008. Applications may also be returned to you for revision and resubmission if deemed necessary.

The procedure for the auditions is as follows:

Acting - 60 seconds only; begin by giving name, audition number, title of play (no author), name of character. The timing will begin with the first word of the monologue. No props/costumes allowed.

Acting with a song - 90 seconds only; same procedure as acting monologue; a cassette tape/CD Player will be provided. Have your tape cued up and make sure CD's will play in any player. No accompanist or piano will be provided .

After time has been called, you will sit down. Please remember to be courteous and stop by each college and university table that calls you back, even if it is to indicate to them that you are not interested in attending that particular school.

Following the auditions the participating college/universities will provide the group with feedback as to what they observed and answer questions regarding auditioning.

Please periodically check the MTA Web Site for additional information and updates on the College/University Auditions. A list of participating college/universities will be posted on the MTA web site once they have all responded.

To assist in preparing for the auditions we have created a web site that explains some of the Do's and Don'ts of auditioning. This information includes information on what pieces to avoid, how to find your character, what to wear and what not to wear, etc. This information can be found here.
